Getting to the Blue Lagoon
The Blue Lagoon (Bláa Lónið) sits in the middle of a lava field on the Reykjanes peninsula, about 22 km from KEF and 50 km from Reykjavík. There is no public-transport stop next to it, so visitors either join a tour bus, drive themselves, or take a taxi. A taxi is the most flexible option of the three — there's no fixed return time, the bags stay in the car, and the entrance has a dedicated drop-off lane.
Two scenarios cover most of what we drive there. First, the airport-lagoon-city combo: pick up at KEF arrivals, two or three hours at the lagoon, then on to a hotel in Reykjavík. It's a popular way to break up the airport-to-city leg after a long flight, and the suitcases never leave the car. Second, the round trip from Reykjavík: hotel pickup, two or three hours at the lagoon, hotel drop-off. Compared with a tour bus the obvious advantage is that you decide when to leave.
