Reykjavík

Door-to-door pickup from your accommodation in Reykjavík.

2
Þingvellir National Park

UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk the Almannagjá gorge — the visible rift between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Site of the world's oldest parliament (Alþingi, est. 930 AD). Optional: snorkel the crystal-clear Silfra fissure (advance booking required).

3
Geysir / Strokkur

Haukadalur geothermal valley. Watch Strokkur erupt every 5–10 minutes, shooting boiling water 15–40 m into the air. The Great Geysir nearby gave the English word "geyser" to the world. Walk the boardwalk past colourful hot springs and steaming fumaroles.

4
Gullfoss

The Golden Waterfall — the Hvítá river drops 32 m in two tiers into a dramatic 70 m deep canyon. Walk the upper panoramic path or the lower mist-soaked platform. On sunny days rainbow arcs span the gorge. Flow can reach 140 m³/s in summer.

5
Kerið Volcanic Crater (optional)

A 6,500-year-old explosion crater, 55 m deep and 170 m wide, with vivid red and ochre walls plunging to a turquoise-green lake. Walk the full 1 km rim or descend to the lake floor via a steep zigzag path. Entry ≈ €7.

What to bring

Seasonality & weather

☀️
Summer (Jun–Aug)

Up to 22 hours of daylight in June. All paths open, wildflowers blooming, Gullfoss at high flow. Most crowded — depart early (before 9am) to beat coach tours at Geysir and Gullfoss.

🍂
Autumn (Sep–Oct)

Golden foliage in the valleys, far fewer crowds. Northern Lights become possible from late August. Weather increasingly unpredictable — waterproofs are essential.

❄️
Winter (Nov–Mar)

Snow-covered Þingvellir is breathtaking. Only 4–5 hours of daylight in December. Good Northern Lights odds on clear nights. Microspikes needed on icy paths. Some trails temporarily closed.

🌱
Spring (Apr–May)

Waterfalls at peak flow from snowmelt. Bright green hills returning. Quieter than summer. Paths at Þingvellir reopen as ice melts — ideal photography conditions.

Traveler reviews

5.0

Everything about this day was perfect. The driver took us to Þingvellir just as the morning mist was lifting — absolutely magical. We spent almost two hours there, which no group bus would ever allow. Gullfoss spray soaked us completely but we didn't care. Worth every penny for the private experience.

Our guide was a treasure of local knowledge. He knew exactly when Strokkur would erupt for the best photo angle, and he told us the story of Sigríður who saved Gullfoss from being dammed. We added the Kerið crater at the last minute and he happily adjusted — that flexibility is priceless.

We had done the Golden Circle on a group bus years earlier and it felt rushed. This private tour was a completely different experience. We left Reykjavík at 8am, had every major site to ourselves, and were back by 6pm totally satisfied. The driver's commentary on Icelandic geology and history was fascinating.
